Super Camp Comes to a Close

After a weekend full of learning, training, inspiration, and above all fun, the 2010 HealthSource Super Camp came to a close Sunday morning, but not before HealthSource's Director of Franchise Development, Dr. Jim Hoven, gave one last rousing speech about the importance of building leadership throughout a practice.
"Help others find the greatness in themselves," Dr. Hoven said. "Create leaders behind you. I think the number one skill of a great leader is the ability to develop leaders behind them, to give others more opportunity."

Dr. Hoven stressed the importance of setting and maintaining goals on a weekly basis, and even pulled out his own "37-cent pocket-sized" notepad as proof.

In setting goals, while having a little hope is nice, he said, without the right amount of confidence supporting you, expectations can suddenly become lofty and out-of-touch.

"If you're going to expect more it requires confidence," he said. "You can't expect and hope. When you expect something, you're assuming that it's going to happen to you. When you hope, there's wonder--there's doubt in hope. True expectation is different than hope."

How Super Camp Translates into Success

One of the more interesting things I keep coming across at Super Camp is the willingness for a doctor to share their success secrets with other HealthSource doctors and staff.
This was no more apparent then in the break-out class for weight loss, in which Dr. Adam Bunce, joined a hand-full of other HS docs at the front of the class to share their own success stories, and how each is helping their own patients lose weight.
I spoke to Dr. Bunce about how Super Camp has become a fundamental part of his own success.

GOALS, GOALS, GOALS -Write them down!

When it comes to getting your personal and professional life in order, it should always start with grabbing a pen and jotting down your goals.
That was one of the important lessons revealed in discussions led by real estate developer and successful businessman Bob Campana, executive coach and management consultant Rob Berkley (pictured above left), and HealthSource's own Vice President of Operations, Brian Dugger.
Super Campers learned that whether driving a business towards success, or wanting to spend more time with family, the one thing that all successful people have in common is keeping a detailed list of their goals nearby.
With a list of goals in your hands, Mr. Campana said, you already have a map guiding your way. "It's just up to you to follow it," he said.
Mr. Dugger focused on the factors driving a successful business, and stressed the importance of including staff members in the goal-building process, while Mr. Berkley followed up the afternoon with the 7 steps that must take place if you're going to start achieving what you really want to achieve in your practice.
Super Campers really packed it in to hear each speaker, and one word seemed to describe the experience more-so than others: "amazing."
"It really has been simply amazing so far," Dr. Chris Tomshack said. "The life lessons that are being shared, and the opportunities that are being realized has really made this a special event."

(interesting side note)
Mr. Campana also suggested getting back in-touch with friends and family via hand-written notes instead of the newfound methods of text messaging and email.
So, who should you start with?
"If you can, start with your mother," he said. "It might seem like a little thing, but it can mean so much."

The 6:15 a.m. Super Camp Workout

Lettin' the Super Camp Sweat Flow!

In what has become a Super Camp tradition, more than 100 joined Dr. Chris Tomshack in a rigorous 6:15 a.m. workout on Day 2 to get their heart rates and minds "in the right place."
With Dr. Tomshack leading the way, it didn't take long before everyone was squating, jumping, and sweating in unison.
"I'm partial to an early morning workout because I believe it helps set the tone for the rest of the day," Dr. Tomshack said. "When you sweat together, it really serves as an incredible opportunity to bond and to get to know each other a little better."
The rest of the attendees joined in a little later during the Super Camp "morning huddle," in which Dr. Jim Hoven, Dr. David Neubauer, and other members of the HS corporate team led the entire group through a series of light stretching exercises. With hundreds of HealthSource red wristbands waving through the air, the inprinted message on each was more apparent then ever: "What I think about, I bring about."

Super Camp Delivers: "The Prescription for Success in the 'New Economy'

Guest blogger Steve Szucs gives us the inside scoop from the 2010 HealthSource Super Camp in Dallas, TX.

5:59 p.m. April, 30
DALLAS, TX--The 2010 HealthSource Super Camp got off to a rousing start Friday morning as more than 600 packed the Hyatt Regency ballroom to hear Dr. Chris Tomshack's State of the Franchise address.
Dr. Tomshack spoke about his own beginnings as an in-the-trenches doc, and said that while hard work and discipline were vital to succeeding in the "new economy," HS docs and team members would continue to receive all the necessary tools to topple any looming challenges.
"We continue to grow for a reason, and that's because we've developed a system that works," Dr. Tomshack said. "But now is not the time for complacency. If you want to come out of this economy stronger than ever, you have to seize this opportunity."
Throughout the day, doctors and team members were able to choose from a series of breakout classes including Internet/SEO Marketing, Weight Loss, and Building Multiple Offices. Dr. David Neubauer concluded the evening with an inspirational speech during dinner entitled, "Why am I a Doctor of Chiropractic."
For Super Campers like Dr. Brandon Pettke, day one of an exciting Super Camp weekend had already been worth the trip.
"I have all my staff here, because I know that not only will we succeed further, but that we'll succeed at a much faster rate," he said.

Be sure to check out one of Super Camp's "morning huddles" below--truly awesome stuff.
